Dallas officers disciplined over response to fatal crash involving fmr. union pres.

Internal records say officers gave Jaime Castro special treatment and delayed steps to conduct interviews or determine whether alcohol was involved.

Atianna Washington lay bloodied and unresponsive in the roadway when a Dallas police officer arrived.

A black Cadillac struck Washington on March 15, 2025, as she crossed a dimly lit stretch of West Northwest Highway. The officer, Cory Adams, ordered the bystanders around Washington out of the street. She was pronounced dead roughly 40 minutes later.

Adams recognized a familiar face at the scene, a man wearing a white T-shirt and police uniform pants.

“Oh, hey, I know you,” Adams said, as his body-worn camera recorded. “What’s up, bro?”

He briefly embraced the man as they stood near Washington’s feet.

Jaime Castro was no ordinary bystander. He was president of the Dallas Police Association, the city’s largest police union.
