Union Pacific train and FedEx truck collide near Itasca

Authorities are investigating the Thursday afternoon crash that also led to a heat-related emergency for a first responder.

A train and a FedEx truck collided on the tracks in Itasca on Thursday afternoon.

According to the Texas Department of Safety (DPS), troopers responded to the crash near State Highway 81 and County Road 4148, north of Itasca, around 2 p.m.

According to officials, the FedEx truck was struck by a Union Pacific train while crossing the tracks.

The driver and passenger were transported to area hospitals in critical condition, according to DPS.

According to Union Pacific, the train crew was not injured.

A first responder had a heat-related emergency that required medical help, the Hill County Sheriff's Office said.

The incident is still under investigation.
