DART adding State Fair shuttle buses, more train service for fairgoers

People heading to the State Fair of Texas this year will have new options to get there.

DART announced Wednesday that it will launch special "State Fair Flyer" shuttle buses on weekends during the fair, giving riders direct service from several transit centers to Fair Park.

The agency is also increasing train capacity and running all light rail lines every 20 minutes during the fair season.

DART officials said they expect to carry thousands of additional passengers during the State Fair and that the new service is intended to handle the increased demand.

"This gives our customers another convenient option for reaching the fairgrounds," said Trenise Wintersm, DART's chief operations officer."...without having to worry about driving, parking and navigating traffic around fair park."

The Flyer Shuttle will also operate on Columbus Day, and some of the transit centers include Downtown Rowlett Station and Lake Ray Hubbard Transit Center.

DART is also modifying Orange Line service on the weekends during the fair. Trains from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport will continue through downtown Dallas before traveling to Fair Park and Buckner Station. Passengers traveling between Parker Road Station and downtown Dallas will need to use the Red Line.

Additional trains and shuttle buses will be available during the Red River Rivalry, one of the fair's busiest days, DART officials said.

The State Fair of Texas opens Sept. 25 and runs through Oct. 18.
