Assassination culture dominating the left
by Editorial Board · The Washington TimesOPINION:
Two high-profile murder cases are moving forward on opposite sides of the country. In each, because of its reckless rhetoric, the left is an unindicted co-conspirator.
Luigi Mangione, who is charged with the brutal murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, is awaiting trial in Manhattan. Tyler Robinson is being prosecuted in the brutal murder of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk in Provo, Utah.
In both cases, hearings are underway to determine which evidence may be admitted at trial.
Apparently, both murders were ideologically motivated.
Prosecutors charge that Thompson was killed to strike a blow against “insurance company greed,” according to a manifesto found on Mr. Mangione at the time of his arrest. Kirk was murdered for his conservative views, especially his opposition to so-called transgenderism. At the time of Kirk’s death, Mr. Robinson was in a relationship with a “transgender individual.”
Each defendant has a fan club, which does not care whether they are innocent or guilty, only that the killings were justified in their sick minds.
One of Mr. Mangione’s fan girls at the courthouse where he is being tried, wearing a “Free Luigi” T-shirt, said Thompson deserved to die because health insurance premiums are too high and “his children are better off without him,” reflecting a bone-chilling hatred of corporate CEOs.
The evidence against Mr. Robinson is said to include bullet casings, found at the crime scene, marked “Catch this, fascist.”

Neither crime happened in a vacuum. The left has been preaching political violence for years. Despite three attempts on President Trump’s life, Democrats persist in calling him a “fascist.” How can this not be considered incitement? Isn’t violence justified against a fascist, especially when he holds the highest office in the land?
As it loses power at the polls, the left becomes increasingly more unhinged and brazen in its calls for violence against its enemies: police officers, immigration agents and Republicans. The underlying message is: “If you don’t agree with me, you are a racist, sexist, xenophobe or transphobe who deserves to die.”
The survival of democracy depends on settling our differences peacefully.
It is not just about the guilt or innocence of two people, but also about the environment in which political violence has become almost a moral imperative for the left.
