Letter to the editor: Mr. President, be honest with Americans
· The Washington TimesOPINION:
President Trump must speak to the American people about our war with Iran.
He needs to explain in detail the risks and hidden dangers we are confronting, how a nuclear Iran would be a threat and how it would negatively affect the world.
Most Americans would greatly appreciate it if our president was upfront with them, if he was forthcoming about the consequences of failing to ensure that this adversary gets a nuclear weapon.
I believe that if he did, the public would enthusiastically support him. The American people have a history of standing by presidents who are honest with them about the hazards of war, and I think they would also stand by Mr. Trump.
With the ceasefire deadline today, Mr. Trump must address the nation as soon as possible. He needs to push against his tendency to keep matters close to the vest and believe that Americans will stand by his side.
