WATCH: Justice Jackson, ‘bless her heart,’ can’t stop court wins

by · The Washington Times

OPINION:

The U.S. Supreme Court just issued an 8-1 decision that found a Colorado ban on “conversion therapy” that prevented mental health professionals from counseling against transgenderism and other gender identity issues was an unconstitutional violation of free speech.

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson was the sole voice to dissent, arguing the majority’s opinion “could be ushering in an era of unprofessional and unsafe medical care administered by effectively unsupervised healthcare providers.”

And on Jackson’s opinion, Michael Farris, general counsel for National Religious Broadcasters and one of the leading legal defenders of religious freedom and free speech issues in the courts, said this: “Bless her heart.”

That’s southern-speak for — what a dolt.

Also facing free speech challenge is the right of church leaders to speak as they desire on politics.

The Johnson Amendment bans churches and other 501(c)(3) organizations from openly showing support for political candidates. Violators are subject to losing IRS tax-exempt status.

But it’s a prohibition that strikes at the core of American freedom, and critics have called it a stark example of free speech and religious liberty violations.

NRB, along with Intercessors for America and two churches, have challenged the Johnson Amendment in court. But a district judge just dismissed the challenge.
