Trump says U.S., China made progress during talks: ‘Very positive’
by Tom Howell Jr. · The Washington TimesThe U.S. and China made “tremendous strides” during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit, President Trump said as the leaders capped the stay with tea at the White House and a trip to the National Archives.
Mr. Trump said he will stay in touch with Mr. Xi and added that U.S. farmers, in particular, will be “very happy” with outcomes from their meetings.
“I think we’ve made tremendous strides,” Mr. Trump said. “Very positive for both countries.”

Mr. Xi said the leaders could meet again at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings in China in November and the Group of 20 summit in Florida in December.
Over tea in the White House Red Room, he thanked Mr. Trump for his hospitality.
“Everything is done to the highest order of perfection, and there is thought in every little detail, and it’s greatly appreciated,” Mr. Xi said.

The leaders planned to visit the archives to examine important U.S. historical documents before Mr. Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, returned to China.
Mr. Trump told the media on Friday he appreciated its coverage of the visit. A court temporarily overruled Mr. Trump’s attempt to ban CNN, MS Now and Politico from White House grounds, though the litigation continues.

“We appreciate the fair coverage. It’s been very fair,” Mr. Trump said.
The U.S. and China are the world’s leading economies. The Trump administration and Beijing have wrangled over tariffs and trade, and both nations want to dominate the race to develop artificial intelligence.
On Thursday, the leaders held closed-door meetings, toured the White House grounds and toasted the U.S.-China relationship in a lavish state dinner in the East Room.
The leaders agreed that AI should promote peace and be based on healthy competition.

On Friday, Mr. Trump said the Chinese leaders seemed to agree that AI had a branding problem and should get a more positive name.

“Like almost everyone else, he seemed to like calling the poorly and inaccurately named Artificial Intelligence to a far more accurate and important name, SUPER INTELLIGENCE. That would be ‘SUPER!’ Everyone last night agreed, also,” Mr. Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Also, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said the two countries reached agreements on which products should be shielded from future tariffs and trade disputes, from farm goods to medical devices.
“We’ve actually reached agreement with the Chinese on a number of these things,” he told CNBC, adding that more details would be released Monday. “If there are tariff measures in the future, we just leave those [products] to the side.”
