‘How I Met Your Mother’ actor Nick Pasqual convicted of attempted murder

by · The Washington Times

Actor Nick Pasqual, who appeared in a 2011 episode of “How I Met Your Mother,” was found guilty Friday of attempted murder and a string of additional charges stemming from a May 2024 attack on his estranged girlfriend, makeup artist Allie Shehorn.

A Los Angeles jury convicted Pasqual, 36, on every count he faced, including attempted murder, first-degree residential burglary with a person present, injuring a spouse or cohabitant, and one count of forcible rape from a month before the stabbing. The jury also found two special allegations tied to the attempted murder charge to be true: the infliction of great bodily injury under circumstances involving domestic violence and the use of a deadly weapon. Pasqual had pleaded not guilty to all charges.

He faces a maximum sentence of life in state prison. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for June 2 in Los Angeles.

Prosecutors say Pasqual broke into Shehorn’s home in the Sunland neighborhood of Los Angeles at approximately 4:30 a.m. on May 23, 2024, and stabbed her more than 20 times. She suffered multiple slash wounds to her neck and cuts to her arms and abdomen, spending more than a week in the hospital recovering, including time in the intensive care unit. Friends launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover her medical bills.

Shehorn had obtained a restraining order against Pasqual before the attack, alleging the relationship had turned abusive. She took the stand during the trial, still bearing visible scars on her arm and neck, and described earlier violent episodes. “I locked the door and he just started punching holes in that door and broke that open, and I just ran into the bathroom because I thought there’s another lock on that door,” she testified.

After the attack, Pasqual fled California. He was detained at a U.S.-Mexico border checkpoint in Sierra Blanca, Texas, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office.

Pasqual’s trial ran from April 27 to Friday. Beyond “How I Met Your Mother,” he had roles in the Netflix series “Archive 81,” Zack Snyder’s “Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire,” and the Steve Jobs biopic “Jobs,” and contributed to the web sketch comedy series “National Day Riff.”
