Texan finds live WWII grenades in boxes bought at estate sale
by Brad Matthews · The Washington TimesAn Austin, Texas, bomb squad swarmed a residence this week after someone found live grenades inside a box bought at an estate sale.
Police officers responded Monday after the resident, unnamed by authorities, found the World War II-era ordnance, the Austin Police Association, which represents the city’s police officers, said on social media.
Officers confirmed the weapons were still live and secured the perimeter while waiting for the bomb squad to come and dispose of the explosives, the police union said.

Six grenades were in the box and were rendered safe by the bomb squad, according to the Austin American-Statesman.
The explosives included Mk 2 pineapple-shaped fragmentation grenades, which were standard use in the military from World War II into the Vietnam War, according to the New York Post. The box also held a container for a M21 practice grenade.
The police union said no crime was committed and urged anyone who finds military ordnance to leave it be and call 911 so it can be safely handled and removed.
