NYPD braces for a Swifties invasion for the wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce
by Juliet La Sala · The Washington TimesNew York City police have been quietly warned to brace for chaos surrounding the wedding celebrations of pop star Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce next week.
NYPD officers patrolling the area around Madison Square Garden confirmed to Variety that they have been briefed about a flood of Taylor Swift fans, paparazzi and curious onlookers inundating Midtown Manhattan ahead of the July 3 wedding.
The nuptials are rumored to take place at Madison Square Garden, which sits directly above Penn Station, one of the city’s busiest transportation hubs, in an already heavily congested stretch of Midtown.
Security plans involve both the NYPD and private firms, and street closures around MSG are expected on the day of the event.
New York, of course, is accustomed to a little mayhem. In recent weeks, officers have managed violent celebrations after the New York Knicks won the NBA championship and the surge of foreign visitors for the FIFA World Cup.
Between 1,100 and 1,200 guests are expected to attend the wedding party. The ceremony itself was reportedly held privately at Ms. Swift’s Rhode Island residence.
