Ayanfuri Chief Dies After Accidentally Shooting Himself At Funeral Ceremony

Tragedy has struck the Ayanfuri Traditional Area following the death of Nana Kwabena Okyere, who reportedly shot himself accidentally during a funeral ceremony.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on Friday, May 9, 2026, during the funeral rites of Akwasi Kwateng in the Diaso District.

The chief is said to have accidentally discharged a pump-action gun, sustaining a severe gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Following the incident, Nana Kwabena Okyere was rushed to the Ayanfuri Pentecost Hospital for emergency treatment.

However, he sadly passed away while receiving medical care. His body has since been deposited at the Dunkwa-On-Offin Municipal Hospital mortuary pending further investigations and related procedures.

The Ghana Police Service has commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
