Ghanaian medical doctor and politician, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, has admitted that he was one of the reasons the NPP lost the last general election.

Napo’s admittance comes following a recent interview with Evans Mensah on Joy News, which has since flown across social media platforms.

Speaking during the interview which was monitored by Gh Page, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh noted that he made some utterances during the 2024 campaign, which he believes contributed to the fall of the NPP.

Despite admitting that, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh revealed that Ghanaians misunderstood most of his utterances such as “Mo Kwame Nkrumah No”, and following that, harbored hatred for him, Dr. Bawumia, and the NPP at large.

According to Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, he meant something else, however, for the sake of Propaganda, the NDC picked it, and politicised it.

Following the viral interview, the former minister of education took to his official Facebook page to post the recent interview with a lengthy caption.

In his caption, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh admitted that, indeed, his utterances caused the NPP’s downfall in the last general election. Meanwhile, beneath is his full caption;

In my recent conversation with Evans Mensah, I acknowledged that some of my own public statements during the 2024 election season contributed to the disaffection many felt toward our campaign.

Leadership requires honesty, and honesty begins with accepting one’s share of responsibility. Every one of us including New Patriotic Party (NPP: Development in Freedom) leaders, members, communicators, organisers, and supporters must be willing to look in the mirror and reflect on what we could have done better. That is the only way to rebuild trust, restore unity, and become a stronger Party and a stronger nation.

For me, this period has been one of deep reflection, learning, and growth. I am committed to engaging and listening more, and to contributing to a political culture that places service above ego, Ghana above self, and truth above convenience.

We cannot change yesterday but we can take responsibility for it and use it to build a better tomorrow.
