SAD! Husband shoots his soldier wife to death
by Armani Brooklyn · GHANA PAGEAn American military court has sentenced a Kenyan-born US Army staff sergeant to 26 years in prison for killing his wife, herself an active-duty soldier, after a domestic dispute at their home in Killeen, Texas.
Staff Sgt John Gitau Mwangi, 43, admitted to killing Sgt Esther Gitau, 37, during a court-martial held on December 12, a case that has shaken both the military community and the family left behind.
The Army’s Office of Special Trial Counsel confirmed that Mwangi pleaded guilty to unpremeditated murder, bringing to an end a case that had lingered painfully for nearly a year.

Details indicate that the fatal shooting occurred on February 21 following an argument between the former lovebirds.
Investigators said Mwangi fired several shots at his wife before locking her inside a bedroom and leaving the house.
Police officers later discovered Sgt Gitau inside the home. The couple’s two children were also found in the house, unharmed and reportedly unaware of the violence that had unfolded around them.
Mwangi, an aircraft structural repair specialist attached to the 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, was arrested the following day as he attempted to access Fort Hood.
The investigation was conducted jointly by the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division and the Killeen Police Department, reflecting the seriousness with which the case was treated both inside and outside the military justice system.
