Ghana has criminalised the non-consensual sharing of intimate or explicit images and videos.

Under Section 67 of the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038), anyone who distributes such material without the consent of the person depicted can face a prison term ranging from one to three years. Depending on the exact nature of the crime, the penalties can be far more severe.

Child Exploitation: Sharing, possessing, or distributing explicit images and videos of minors (under 18) carries a much harsher sentence, ranging from 5 to 25 years in prison.

Sextortion & Blackmail: Threatening to share or publish naked pictures for the purpose of extorting money or favors attracts a prison sentence ranging from 10 to 25 years.

Fines: In addition to imprisonment, offenders can face substantial financial penalties.The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) actively enforces these laws to combat the rising cases of “revenge porn” and sexual extortion in the country.
