Netherlands records first sub-zero temp. of autumn; Weekend set to stay cool at 5-10°C
The Netherlands logged its first official autumn frost overnight, with temperatures falling to -1.4 degrees Celsius at the De Bilt weather station, where the national measures are taken, late Thursday and early Friday. Highs of five to ten degrees are expected on Saturday and around ten degrees on Sunday, Weeronline reports.
Frost was also reported at other locations, with the coldest reading so far at -1.7 degrees in Horst. Light frost was measured at several spots Thursday, marking the season’s first local freezes.
Recent years have seen the first official frost arrive later than the long-term average. It came on November 16 last year, November 21 in 2024 and November 26 in 2023. Over the 1996-2025 period the average date was November 8; it was November 3 for 1991-2020 and October 31 for 1971-2000.
Looking forward, cool, partly cloudy conditions are expected Saturday with highs of five to ten degrees and light rain possible in the southwest. It will be followed by a mix of sun and spotty rain on Sunday, according to the weather service.
The week ahead will start quietly before turning more unsettled. Monday looks dry and sunny with highs of eight to ten degrees, while Tuesday is set to remain cold and dry. The temperatures of around five to eight degrees will be likely hit on Tuesday after a chilly start.
Rain is expected to arrive from the southwest on Wednesday as temperatures are set to rise slightly to six to 11 degrees. After that, more variable conditions and occasional showers are possible in the days to follow.
