Police free man held hostage in Zwijndrecht; Two arrested
A 21-year-old man from The Hague was allegedly held hostage in the city by two young men. He was freed on Saturday afternoon by a Special Intervention Service (DSI) from a residence in Zwijndrecht, Zuid-Holland. Two suspects, aged 18 and 19, were arrested, Hart van Nederland reports.
Police are now trying to figure out whether the situation is connected to a drug seizure in Germany earlier this week. Thirty kilograms of amphetamine were intercepted in the case.
The DSI responded on Saturday to a home on Tomatenplein, where the hostage was reportedly being held. The two youths were then arrested and a firearm seized. The pair are from Papendrecht and Rotterdam, police said on Monday evening.
The German case took place last Wednesday, when a 21-year-old Dutch nation was detained during a routine check. German customs discovered at least 30 kilograms of amohetamine on him.
The Dutch police suggest that the arrest and seizure of the drugs may have led to the hostage-taking. However, this has not been confirmed or denied.
