Soviet war cemetery in Leusden vandalized again with anti-communist slogans

The Soviet War Cemetery in Leusden was vandalized again Saturday, the organization said on its website. Slogans like “fuck refugees” and “Dutch government = Commies” were painted in red and black on the memorial wall and the obelisk at the cemetery. The gravestones were also vandalized back in July.

Other statements include “Not against Russians but against commies” and "Stop the war fight.” The “Fuck refugees” statement was painted in black on the obelisk, among other slogans.

The vandalism is “tragic and sad,” said director of the Soviet War Cemetery Foundation Remco Reiding. The cemetery is the burial place of 865 victims from the former Soviet Union. They are mostly soldiers who died in Germany or the Netherlands during World War II.

This is not the first time the cemetery has been vandalized. In July, 150 graves were defaced with texts including “fuck Putin,” “fuck Zelensky,” “white power," and “fuck communism.”

Reiding said he is in consultation with the relevant authorities. “We hope that a solution will be found to prevent recurrence.”
