Mass sperm donor Simon who fathered at least 199 children signs contract to stop
The 44-year-old mass sperm donor Simon has signed a contract prohibiting him from donating any more sperm, NOS Nieuwsuur reports. He is said to have fathered at least 199 children. According to his own account, 172 are Dutch, 15 are from Germany, 11 are Belgian and one child is from an undisclosed European country.
The man agreed to the terms with Sticting Donorkind, a foundation that advocates for parents and children affected by mass donations. Under the contract, he must have any remaining sperm stored at clinics and destroyed. He is also barred from telling new prospective parents that he is willing to donate. Violations carry financial penalties, the amount of which the foundation has not disclosed.
Dutch rules limit donations through hospitals and clinics to a maximum of 12 families per donor. Simon reportedly continued making private donations long after exceeding that limit.
Private donations outside clinics are not illegal, but a large number of half-siblings from a single donor are widely viewed as undesirable. Among other factors, they raise the risk of an unwitting incestuous relationship.
The contract reportedly includes a narrow exception: S. may still donate to a woman who already has his child if the two parties had previously agreed in writing that he would be eligible to serve as a donor for another baby. In such cases he must report the province a child is from, their gender, and their year of birth to Sticting Donorkind.
