Victim of NDSM shooting in Amsterdam-Noord may have known his killer from prison

After the identities of the victim and the perpetrator of the deadly shooting on Friday along the NDSM-kade were revealed, insiders told Het Parool that the two men might have known each other from their time at the Judicial Complex Zaanstad. The victim, 61-year-old Marcel, reportedly worked for over 30 years at the location and was liked. His shooter, Amin D., 37, has reportedly been previously detained both at the Bijlmerbajes and the Judicial Complex Zaansdad. However, that has not been confirmed by the police.

According to Het Parool, Amin D. and his brother have been notorious in Amsterdam-Noord neighborhoods, including Tuindrops Oostzaan and Molenwijk. Because D. was born in Somalia, he is reportedly called “Soma” in the neighborhoods. According to the newspaper, acquaintances describe D. as a “creep” with a “poor reputation." He allegedly has a prior record of violence, including an attempted fatal shooting and serious assaults, among other acts of violence. His brother has also been convicted several times of coarse violence, including aggravated assault.

According to sources that spoke to Het Parool, D has a reputation in Noord of being a “weapons fanatic” and a “weapons expert.” One source told the newspaper that, earlier, if you wanted a weapon, you would just go to Soma. "He would just pull them out of a little bag.”

Amin D and Marcel had gotten into an argument at around 3 p.m. on Friday over D’s loose dog. The weather was sunny, so the terrace on the NDSM-kade in Noord was full of people. After the two had a quarrel, Amin D. suddenly drew a pistol from his bag and shot Marcel dead. He then threw the weapon into the water, put his dog on the leash, and waited for police.
