One killed, three injured in three-car crash on Oostvaardersdijk near Lelystad
A serious traffic accident on the Oostvaardersdijk between Lelystad and Almere left one person dead and three others injured Friday evening, Omroep Flevoland reported. The collision involved three vehicles, with one car riding off the dike and ending up in the water. The crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. near Lelystad, and emergency services closed the dike for several hours to investigate.
The 53-year-old driver of one vehicle was immediately resuscitated at the scene but later died. The 58-year-old passenger in the same car was transported to a hospital with injuries.
In a second vehicle, a 53-year-old became trapped and had to be freed by firefighters. That person, along with the 28-year-old driver of the third car, was also taken to the hospital with injuries.
Divers from the fire department searched the water for possible occupants of the submerged vehicle. Police said the damage to the vehicles was extensive.
Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the accident or has dashcam footage to contact the police.
