Police shoot suspect in Rotterdam after masked robbery, warning shots
Police shot a man during a robbery involving several masked suspects after the group ignored warning shots, authorities said on Friday. Several men entered the premises and assaulted two.
Officers responded around 4 p.m. to a report of a robbery at a business on Berkenwoudestraat in the Lombardijen neighborhood. The suspects fled with a car.
Officers quickly located the fleeing suspects, after which the men got out of the vehicle and ran. Police then fired warning shots. After the men did not stop running, officers fired aimed shots, striking one of the suspects.
The wounded suspect was taken to a hospital by ambulance, where he was arrested. Another suspect was arrested a few kilometers away on Oldegaarde.
The two victims were treated by the ambulance personnel on-scene. Police are now investigating the robbery, while the Rijksrecherche is investigating the shooting, which is normal for cases involving police use of firearms.
