Far-right protest, counterprotest set for The Hague amid calls for violence

On Saturday at Maiveld in The Hague, at 12:30 p.m., the right-wing-organized protest called Wij Zijn Het Volk will take place. In the meantime, based on social media analysis, it has been revealed that some far-right figures are allegedly calling for violence.

The protestors will walk from the Maliveld via Burgemeester Patijnlaan and Plein 1814, among other routes, ending at Maliveld.

It was previously revealed that ahead of the action, a far-right figurehead Tinus Koops stated on TikTok that he wants to see “armed brethren” at the protest.

This is not the only protest action set for Saturday. There will also be a counter-demonstration on Spuiplein, called “Against Fascism and for Inclusivity.” The participants will not march through the city to avoid clashes.

This year’s protest is against the government, with the police expecting several thousand fishermen and farmers, among others. Aggressive far-right groups, like Defend Nederland, are also expected to make an appearance.

Extinction Rebellion (XR) has also said that it will block Utrecht’s ring section on the A12 in protest against fossil fuel subsidies. The municipality of Utrecht announced Wednesday that it is banning the planned blockade. The climate action group has repeatedly blocked the A12 in The Hague and Utrecht.

Last year, a protest against the government’s asylum policy on Maliveled grew into violent riots. Four police officers were injured, a car was set on fire, and the D66 office was vandalized, among other acts. Dozens were arrested, with the city estimating the damage to be at around 68000 euros.
