PMD forecasts more rain, thunderstorms in parts of Karachi today

• Gulshan-e-Hadeed records 4.5mm rain.
• Several areas receive light showers.
• Humidity remains elevated across Karachi.

KARACHI: Mostly cloudy skies are expected in Karachi during the next three days, with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms likely at some places, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said in a statement on Sunday.

The weather department said the maximum temperature in the city is expected to remain between 31 degrees Celsius and 33°C today.

Sea breezes from the southwest were blowing at a speed of 11 kilometres per hour, the department said.

Humid weather and drizzle during the morning and night hours are expected in Karachi on Monday and Tuesday, it added.

The latest forecast comes as the pronounced low-pressure area over Rajasthan has weakened further and become a low-pressure area, according to the PMD.

Monsoon currents coming from the Arabian Sea are affecting most parts of the country, the department said.

Rain with thunderstorms is expected today in several Sindh districts, including Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas and Badin.

The department said rain with thunderstorms is also expected in Sanghar, Khairpur, Tando Muhammad Khan, Hyderabad and Matiari.

Rain is likely in Ghotki, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Qambar Shahdadkot and other districts.

The latest forecast comes after light rain and drizzle occurred in various areas of Karachi during the past 24 hours.

The highest rainfall in the city was recorded in Gulshan-e-Hadeed at 4.5 millimetres, according to the Met Office.

Surjani Town received 4 millimetres of rain, while 3.4 millimetres was recorded in Gulshan-e-Maymar.

Drizzle was also reported at Jinnah Terminal, Old Airport, Korangi and North Karachi, among other areas.
