The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Olaniyi Jeariogbe, the acting coordinator of the Centre for Information and Public Relations of the institution.

The incident occurred off campus on Friday, 29 May, when he and some friends were attacked by armed robbers. He was later taken to hospital but died on Tuesday, 2 June.
