The High Court has refused to extradite Jeremiah O’Brien (56) of Rathkeale, Limerick, to Greece where he faces human trafficking charges over the alleged smuggling of 66 people by overcrowded speedboat. His lawyers successfully argued that Greek prison conditions, including severe overcrowding and violence, would breach his rights.

The objection to the application for extradition was due to the conditions in Greek prisons, his barrister said.
