A foreign inmate receiving medical treatment at Mawlamyine General Hospital has reportedly died. The deceased was identified as 21-year-old Bangladeshi national Mohammad Shoaib, who had been serving a sentence at Mawlamyine Prison (Min Ywa). According to reports, he had been admitted to the male GUARD WARD at Mawlamyine General Hospital at around 1 a.m. on May 16 after suffering from abdominal pain, anemia, and a heart-related condition. He later died from those illnesses at approximately 6:15 p.m. on May 17 while undergoing treatment.
