An RBE passenger train derailed on the PyinOoLwin–Gokteik section of the Mandalay–Lashio railway on the morning of August 1 after heavy rain caused sand and soil to cover the tracks. No injuries were reported. The two-car RBE train, operating from PyinOoLwin to Gokteik, left PyinOoLwin Station and derailed at about 8:17 a.m. between PyinOoLwin and Pwekauk stations. The accident occurred near an unauthorized railway crossing linking PyinOoLwin with Moegyoepyit Village, where rain-triggered debris had accumulated on the tracks.
