A government campaign allowing people to turn in foreworks anonymously and without a fine has so far collected more than 4,000 kilograms, according to the Ministry of Justice and Security. Enschede recorded the largest haul to date: more than 686 kilograms on Monday.

Most municipalities, but largely those in the north of the country, will not grant exemptions this New Year’s Eve for firework displays organized by associations. There is reportedly not enough time to prepare, NU.nl reports.Of 231 municipalities, 198 said they will not grant a permission. Another 33 said they will allow associations to submit requests. Twenty others said a decision will come in the following weeks.
