Katie Zacharia has stepped aside as White House press secretary after five days on the job in which it emerged she is not a lawyer.

Trump told reporters that he had asked Zacharia to "reconsider" the job. He said that he told Zacharia that she did not have to do this job and that if he were her, he would reconsider the position.

President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that his newly selected press secretary, Katie Zacharia, will be starting on Columbus Day.
