Flames and smoke could be seen in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, early on September 28 after a night of Israeli strikes. Israel's military says the air raids killed Hassan Nasrallah, a Shi'ite cleric leading the militant group Hezbollah, designated a terrorist organization by the United States.

In a statement, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said, 'Hassan Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorise the world.' The IDF said that alongside Nasrallah, the commander of Hezbollah's so-called Southern Front, Ali Karaki, was also killed, along with other commanders, Times of Israel reported.

The militant group has neither confirmed nor denied it as of now.
