Club sources said efforts were made to retain the 43-year-old after prolonged discussions, but his decision was respected, with the squad already informed of his exit.
Bournemouth have begun the process of identifying a replacement, with Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna among the names under consideration.
Iraola has attracted interest from several clubs, including Crystal Palace and Athletic Club, while he has also previously been linked with roles at Manchester United and Real Madrid.
His exit will mark the end of a two-year spell on the south coast as Bournemouth prepare for a new managerial direction.
