Former England captain Wayne Rooney has dismissed speculation that he used weight-loss injections to achieve his slimmer appearance, while revealing that he underwent surgery on his nose after experiencing breathing difficulties.

The 40-year-old said he had been working hard to lose weight through exercise amid claims that he was using weight-loss medication.

Speaking to the Daily Mail on Wednesday ahead of the release of the couple’s new Disney+ series, The Real Rooneys, Rooney laughed off the speculation.

He said: “It’s a shame, because I’m working really hard to lose weight.”

Rooney also explained that his nose operation was not primarily motivated by cosmetic reasons, revealing that he had broken his nose twice during his football career and eventually developed difficulty breathing through one side.

He said: “I couldn’t blow one side out of my nose and so I had it fixed.”

His wife, Coleen, revealed that she had encouraged him to undergo the procedure, partly because of his snoring.

She said: “I tried to get him to do it because of his snoring.”

Rooney first broke his nose while playing for Manchester United against Preston North End in an FA Cup match in 2015.

He later suffered another broken nose while playing for DC United against Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer.

The former striker said he had delayed the surgery for years before eventually undergoing the procedure after the 2026 World Cup.

He later revealed on his *Stick to United* podcast that he was recovering from the operation and had plastic tubes in his nose to assist the healing process.

Rooney’s comments come as he and Coleen launch The Real Rooneys, a 10-part Disney+ documentary series offering an inside look at their family life and careers.

The series follows the couple and their four sons, Kai, 16, Klay, 13, Kit, 10, and Cass, eight, during a period in which Rooney moved away from football management and increased his media work.

The documentary premiered on Disney+ on Thursday.
