Militao returns to Real Madrid training after 195-day injury lay-off

Real Madrid defender Eder Militao has returned to group training after spending 195 days on the sidelines with a muscle injury.

The Brazilian centre-back returned to training with his teammates on Monday after missing the start of the current campaign because of the persistent injury.

Real Madrid confirmed his return by publishing a photograph of the 28-year-old running on the training pitch, marking another step towards his competitive comeback.

Militao’s return comes after another difficult spell with injuries, having suffered two cruciate ligament ruptures over the past three years.

The first kept him out from August 2023 until March 2024, while the second sidelined him from November 2024 to June 2025.

After returning from those setbacks and beginning his recovery, Militao suffered another muscular relapse in April.

As a result, he has not featured in a competitive fixture for more than six months.

The defender’s latest return is a welcome development for Madrid, although the club is expected to be cautious with his reintegration because of his recent injury history.

Manager Jose Mourinho and the medical staff will closely monitor Militao’s physical response during training, with his return to full first-team involvement set to be gradual.

The approach is aimed at reducing the risk of another setback and ensuring the defender has enough time to regain his fitness before being exposed to high-intensity matches.

Madrid will therefore prioritise patience and careful management as Militao continues his recovery and works towards a return to competitive action.
