Transfer News: Arsenal eye £129m move for Julian Alvarez

Arsenal are preparing to open talks with Atletico Madrid over a potential move for Julian Alvarez as the Premier League champions intensify plans to strengthen their attack ahead of the new season.

Arsenal are believed to be monitoring the situation closely and are exploring whether a deal can be structured despite Atletico’s high valuation.

The North London club could benefit from the presence of sporting director Andrea Berta, who spent more than a decade at Atletico Madrid and maintains strong relationships within the Spanish club.

Reports also suggest Berta has a long-standing connection with Alvarez’s representative, Fernando Hidalgo, which could prove useful during negotiations.

Despite Arsenal’s interest, Alvarez is understood to favour remaining in Spain if he leaves Atletico Madrid, with Barcelona still viewed as his preferred destination.

The striker joined Atletico Madrid as one of Europe’s most highly rated forwards and has continued to attract attention from several leading clubs.

Paris Saint-Germain are also reported to be monitoring developments as the race for his signature gathers momentum.
