Ballon d’Or: Bayern stars arrive in London to support Kane
by Ganiyu Mubarak · The Eagle OnlineBayern Munich players and officials have arrived in London to support Harry Kane ahead of Monday’s Ballon d’Or ceremony at the London Palladium, with the England captain tipped to win the prestigious individual award.
Kane leads the German champions’ delegation after a remarkable 2025-26 campaign in which he scored 73 goals for Bayern and the England national team.
The travelling party includes summer signing Michael Olise, Colombian forward Luis Díaz, defender Dayot Upamecano and teenage prospect Lennart Karl.
Bayern president Herbert Hainer and chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen are also in London for the ceremony, while sporting director Max Eberl remained behind after being taken ill with a cold.
Díaz made no secret of his choice when reporters asked him who he expected to win the award.
“Harry, Harry, the favourite. Always,” he said, according to El Chiringuito TV, which covered the team’s arrival at their hotel.
Dreesen also expressed the club’s support for Kane, pointing to the striker’s goalscoring record as a major reason for his candidacy.
The Bayern chief executive said: “Of course, we would be extremely happy if Harry Kane won the Ballon d’Or. Harry breaks records year after year, but his 73 goals with Bayern Munich and the England national team carry special importance this time.”

Kane’s performances during the 2025-26 period included winning the European Golden Shoe and helping Bayern secure a domestic treble, including the Bundesliga and the German Cup.
Victory at the Ballon d’Or ceremony would make him the first Bayern Munich player to claim the award since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge won it in 1981.
Despite Kane’s impressive numbers, he faces competition for the prize as the ceremony brings together leading figures from across world football.
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi is not expected to attend the event at the London Palladium. Reports suggest the Inter Miami forward’s busy schedule and recent ceremonial commitments in Spain could keep him away from the ceremony.
