Chelsea’s Reece James sidelined again with hamstring injury
by Moronfolu Adeyemi · The Eagle OnlineChelsea captain Reece James is set to miss several matches after suffering another hamstring injury, dealing a fresh setback to the defender’s 2025–26 season.
The injury comes despite James completing the full 90 minutes in Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
The right-back also played the entire match in last Wednesday’s 5-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round-of-16 tie.
However, James was absent from Chelsea’s open training session on Monday ahead of the second leg.
Head coach Liam Rosenior confirmed the injury concern while speaking to reporters.
He said: “Reece felt something in his hamstring in the game against Newcastle.
“It is really frustrating. We don’t know the full extent of the injury.”
Rosenior added: “It could be [weeks]. It’s never great with a hamstring injury.
“We just need to get him scanned and then find out the full extent.”
Reports indicate the defender could be sidelined for several weeks, while another report suggested the problem may keep him out for up to two months.

The injury is the latest in a long line of hamstring issues for the England international.
James has now suffered 10 different hamstring injuries since 2020 and has missed a total of 136 matches during his professional career due to injury and fitness problems.
Chelsea and the player have worked to manage his workload in recent seasons because of concerns about his injury record.
Before the latest setback, the defender had missed only five matches during the 2025–26 campaign.
James had been expected to feature in England’s squad for the upcoming March international window.
The new injury could affect those plans, with England manager Thomas Tuchel due to address the media later this week.
