Alisson ruled out of Liverpool’s Champions League trip to Galatasaray
by The Eagle Online · The Eagle OnlineLiverpool FC goalkeeper Alisson Becker will miss the first leg of the club’s UEFA Champions League last-16 clash against Galatasaray on Tuesday after suffering discomfort during training.
The Brazilian shot-stopper was left out of Liverpool’s 21-man travelling squad for the trip to Istanbul, dealing a blow to the club’s preparations for the knockout fixture.
Alisson had taken part in training on Monday but reportedly felt discomfort at the end of the session, prompting the club’s medical team to rule him out of the match.
The injury setback comes at a difficult moment for Liverpool manager Arne Slot as the club continues its push for European success this season.
Alisson has been a key figure for Liverpool, making 32 appearances across all competitions this campaign.

He was also in goal for Liverpool’s 3–1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup on Friday.
Slot will also be without Federico Chiesa, who missed Monday’s training session and was not included in the squad for the trip.
With Alisson unavailable, Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to start in goal for Liverpool in what will be one of the biggest matches of his career at the club.
The Georgian international joined Liverpool in a £25 million move from Valencia CF and has already made 11 appearances during Alisson’s previous injury absences this season.
One of those appearances came earlier in the competition when Mamardashvili replaced Alisson in the second half of Liverpool’s narrow 1–0 defeat in Istanbul.
