AFCON 2025: Morocco in good start, beat Comoros in opener
by The Eagle Online · The Eagle OnlineHosts Morocco began their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) bid off to a winning start by beating Comoros 2-0 in the tournament’s opening game on Sunday.
The hosts defeated Comoros at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat with the two unreplied second half goals.
Brahim Diaz and Ayoub El Kaabi got the goals that extended Morocco’s world-record winning run to 19 consecutive matches.
Credit to Comoros, who were huge underdogs but defended admirably for long spells and could have equalised when Rafiki Said broke clear, but was denied by a super Yassine Bounou save.
