Greek Ports See Sharp Drop in Cargo Traffic
by Kosta Papadopoulos · Greek City TimesPassenger and cargo traffic at Greek ports declined in the first quarter of 2026, according to data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).
Total passenger traffic fell 1% in the first quarter of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025. The corresponding comparison between the first quarters of 2025 and 2024 recorded a 1.1% decline.
Cargo traffic recorded a sharper fall. Total cargo handled at Greek ports decreased 9% in the first quarter of 2026 compared with the first quarter of 2025. In the corresponding 2025-to-2024 comparison, cargo traffic had increased 1.4%.
Traffic in mobile units, including wheeled vehicles, also declined. ELSTAT recorded a 2.1% decrease in the first quarter of 2026 compared with the same quarter in 2025, following a 3% increase in the corresponding comparison between 2025 and 2024.
