Mysuru: To mark World Rabies Day (Sept.28), People For Animals (PFA), Mysuru, had organised a three-day free anti-rabies vaccination campaign from Sept. 27 to 29 during which 107 animals were vaccinated, including 102 community dogs through an extensive city-wide outreach drive.

Free anti-rabies vaccinations were provided at the PFA Mysuru Centre in Bogadi on Sept. 27 and 28. The campaign culminated on Sept.  29 with a field vaccination drive, during which the PFA team vaccinated 102 community dogs across several neighbourhoods of Mysuru.

The field drive began at 8 am from the PFA Centre in Bogadi. The team carried vaccination supplies along with rabies prevention awareness posters and standees and conducted vaccinations across residential and other public areas.

The team covered Vijayanagar Water Tank, Mahadeshwara Layout, Jayalakshmipuram,  Gokulam, KD Circle, Vijayanagar 1st and 2nd Stages, V.V. Mohalla, Vontikoppal, Cheluvamba Park, Manchegowdanakoppal Circle and Brindavan Extension.

Local animal feeders and caretakers played an important role in helping the team locate and safely approach community dogs.

The field team comprised Dr. Kiran, Paravet Ratan, Shivkumar and animal handlers Manoj and Lal Singh.

The campaign aimed not only to vaccinate community dogs but also to raise awareness about rabies prevention and the importance of vaccination.

Rabies is a vaccine-preventable disease and vaccinating community dogs helps protect the animals while also contributing to reducing the risk of rabies transmission.
