Krunoslav Simon has cast his vote of confidence for Panathinaikos Aktor, naming the Greek powerhouse as the ultimate favorite to secure this season’s EuroLeague crown.

Sharing his prediction for Final Four Stories by Stoiximan on Eurohoops, the Croatian legend and current sports director of the national team of his country expressed deep belief in the Greens, largely due to his long-standing professional relationship with Ergin Ataman during their successful tenure together at Anadolu Efes.

Despite Panathinaikos facing a challenging path through the Playoffs against a resilient Valencia squad, 40-year-old Simon remains convinced that the team’s mental toughness and tactical leadership will prevail. The best-of-five series between Valencia and Panathinaikos Aktor tips off on Tuesday evening in Roig Arena, launching a battle where the winner will secure a coveted spot in the 2026 EuroLeague Final Four Athens, presented by Etihad.

Reflecting on the competitive landscape and the unique advantage held by the Greek club, Simon commented, “Even though they are seventh in the standings, I’m sure that Panathinaikos is the favorite. They are playing against Valencia. Valencia is having an amazing season. They are great. But I know who Ataman is. I know how strong they are. And they have one big advantage. If they reach the Final Four, they will play in their home court. And it will be very, very hard to beat them if they reach the Final Four.”

The prospect of competing for the championship at the Telekom Center Athens, the home of the Greens, between May 22 and 24, provides an unparalleled incentive. Should they eliminate the Taronges and advance, the atmosphere in the Greek capital will undoubtedly serve as a formidable sixth player, making them, in Simon’s view, the team to beat in the championship-crowning tournament.
