Supporters gather in Newcastle fan zone to watch England take on DR Congo in World Cup 2026 last 32
by Kristy Dawson · ChronicleLiveSupporters have gathered in the fan zone in Newcastle city centre to watch England take on DR Congo for the first time ever. The Three Lions will play the African side in the last 32 of the World Cup 2026.
The game kicks off in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, at 5pm UK time. The fan zone in Times Square appears quieter than it was during the group games, which kicked off at 9pm and 10pm UK time.
England made it through to the knockout stages of the competition as winners of Group L after beating Croatia and Panama and drawing against Ghana. DR Congo's four points from Group K, which included a draw with Portugal, saw them qualify as one of the best eight third-placed teams.
