Tottenham man holds ‘one on one’ conversation with manager – Everyone wants more

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Mikey Moore has had a ‘one on one’ conversation with Koln coach René Wagner this week as he awaits his first goal at the club.

The 19-year-old Tottenham youngster joined the German club at the end of the summer transfer window in search of regular playing time.

He returned to Tottenham this summer after a loan spell at Rangers. And initially it appeared he could be a part of Roberto de Zerbi’s plans moving forwards.

But a summer spending on their forward line meant the youngster was pushed down the pecking order. That eventually led to him being sent to Koln for a season so he could continue his development in Germany.

Need for Moore

On the one hand, that has happened. So far, the youngster has made five Bundesliga appearances and registered an assist. He’s also featured in 70% of the available minutes and been in the starting XI 60% of the time.

But he is still waiting for his ‘big moment’ – his first goal. BILD explain that is now considering the icing on the cake in Cologne.

They’re convinced about the Tottenham loanee and know that he ‘knows how to play’. The problem is that there’s nothing tangible to show for it yet. Now the newspaper argues he hasn’t scored or assisted, but records elsewhere have him assisting in the 4-1 defeat to Stuttgart in September.

Either way, the German club want more. They have high expectations for the Tottenham youngster, particularly after compromising to get him. The deal doesn’t include an option to buy, for example.

Tottenham watching

Sporting director Thomas Kessler told BILD: “For Mikey, the focus now needs to be on his continued development here, so that he can position himself to play an important role at Tottenham next year.”

The belief is that he needs to do more, particularly with an eye on his future. Tottenham are watching closely how he performs this season.

To get him on the scoresheet as soon as possible, Moore had a one-on-one conversation with coach René Wagner this week. “He’s longing for that one moment—for things to finally click!” the coach said.

“In this league, he’s capable of beating almost any opponent in a one-on-one situation.”

He has also looked to relieve the pressure, insisting that they can’t try to force more from the youngster.

Some are growing concerned already. Cologne favourite Pierre Littbarski – a World Cup winner – caused a stir recently by telling BILD that the squad contains ‘too much mediocrity’.

“I hope that Moore eventually starts finding the back of the net, too,” he said.

“He has good movement, a certain turn of speed, and he’s willing to take risks. I just hope he doesn’t end up stifled by a bland, uniform style of play. He’s certainly had enough scoring chances.”

It seems he, like Wagner, is convinced that the Tottenham loanee can offer more. Now everyone is waiting for it to happen, with Spurs watching closely.
