“Anything can happen” – Fabian Hürzeler hints he could return for another as Tottenham signing shines

Brighton and Hove Albion manager Fabian Hürzeler has hinted he would be open to signing Mario Vuskovic to unite him with Luka Vuskovic on the south coast, after being very impressed with the arrival from Tottenham.

The Brighton manager has been speaking to Sky Germany today regarding Brighton. They could not resist asking about Luka, who shone at on loan at HSV Hamburg last season.

Vuskovic impresses

The defender spent the year on loan with the German club from Tottenham and went on to establish himself as one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga. They had hoped to keep him for another year, so he could play with his brother Mario at the club this season.

But that proved impossible as Tottenham sought a sale, eventually selling him to Brighton in a €54m deal. The 19-year-old has been impressing everyone since, including his manager.

“He is extremely advanced because he brings a very special mindset to the table,” he said.

“He wants to improve every single day. Whether it’s the day after a match, the day before, or match-day itself – he always wants to keep developing. Very few players his age have that kind of attitude. It speaks to his maturity.

“Of course, in some situations, you can still see that he is very young and inexperienced; he still lacks a certain consistency in his performances. But fundamentally, he has the potential to become a top-tier player – not least because of his outstanding character.

“He integrates extremely well into the team and, for his age, already takes on a great deal of responsibility. That really speaks volumes about him. That’s why we’re very happy to have him.”

Brighton transfer chance

Of course, the major disappointment for Vuskovic is that he couldn’t play with his brother at Hamburg.

Mario recently received a hero’s welcome at the club as he returned to training following an extensive drugs ban. A wave of euphoria has enveloped the German club about his return, with the 24-year-old once considered their rising star.

His focus will be on getting back to that level as quickly as possible. And Hürzeler could have provided a further incentive, the chance of a move to Brighton in future.

“I think if the numbers are good, anything can happen,” he added.

“We know that our scouting is very data driven. But for now, it’s up to Mario to get back into the swing of things and put in good performances. That’s what we hope for him.

“After such a really long break, we wish him a great start. From what I’ve heard, he’s in top physical condition. That speaks in his favour. So, I hope he gets off to a good start. And then we’ll see what happens.”
