Bournemouth loanee edges closer to training return – Comeback won’t change £3m decision

by · Sport Witness

Bournemouth’s Luis Sinisterra has already seen Cruzeiro decide against a permanent move, and now his situation in Brazil offers another familiar twist – a cautious return from injury rather than a clear footballing revival.

As covered in previous updates, the Brazilian side have made a firm internal decision not to trigger the €3.5m (£3m) purchase clause.

That call followed an assessment of performances, availability and overall value. However, the latest reports suggest the winger is edging closer to fitness again.

Return planned – but only partial

According to Bolavip and N3 News, Cruzeiro manager Artur Jorge has provided a fresh update on the Colombian’s recovery timeline.

Jorge explained that Luis Sinisterra is expected to return to training in a limited capacity later this week.

“In relation to Sinisterra, the information I have from the medical department is that he could join Thursday’s session in Belo Horizonte, still partially, but gradually work with us.”

The 26-year-old has been out since February after suffering a thigh injury in the closing moments of a match against Mirassol. That setback added to a growing list of physical issues since his arrival.

The update represents progress, but it remains cautious. There is still no confirmed date for his return to competitive matches.

Familiar pattern continues

Luis Sinisterra’s spell at Cruzeiro has consistently followed the same pattern.

He has suffered four separate injuries since joining on loan from Bournemouth. In contrast, he has managed just three starts for the Brazilian club. That crucial imbalance has become a defining feature of his time there.

Cruzeiro initially signed him with a clear objective. The club aimed to rebuild his physical condition and help him regain rhythm after injury-hit spells in England. However, despite tailored strength and conditioning work, the plan has not delivered the expected results.

Even now, the tone of the latest update reflects caution rather than confidence. The return is gradual. The workload is controlled. And there is no certainty over sustained availability. So Cruzeiro will stand by the call to not buy him.

What this means for Bournemouth

From Bournemouth’s perspective, the situation remains largely unchanged.

The decision not to proceed with a €3.5m (£3m) deal has already been made. This latest development does little to alter that direction. Instead, it reinforces the core issue that has shaped Sinisterra’s recent career – availability.

A partial return to training is a positive step. However, without a consistent run of matches, it is unlikely to shift the wider assessment before the end of the loan.

As things stand, Bournemouth are still expected to welcome the winger back in the summer. The coming weeks may offer him a final opportunity to build momentum, but for now, the narrative remains the same.
