Manchester United exit can ‘quickly gain momentum’ – January transfer looking increasingly likely

by · Sport Witness

Joshua Zirkzee’s move to Roma from Manchester United could now progress quickly, with the striker pushing to make it happen.

That’s according to Voetbal International. They report that the move to Rome is on for Zirkzee, but Manchester United still need to agree to the terms.

They explain that Roma’s intention is to loan Zirkzee until the end of the season with a mandatory purchase clause included. Manchester United are open to this, but the African Cup of Nations has altered their thinking.

They’ve already lost several players to the tournament. As a result, they don’t want to sanction a deal for Zirkzee until others have returned. Once the tournament is done and their squad is back at full strength, there is a ‘good chance’ Zirkzee will be allowed to leave.

The player has prioritised playing time in the next six months because he wants a place in the Netherlands squad at the World Cup.

His previous good spell in Italy with Bologna means a return there makes sense. That ultimately earned him the move to Manchester United and it’s clear he thinks he can get back on track at Roma.

He’s already held conversations with Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini about the transfer. These talks have left him enthusiastic about the plans they have for him.

Manchester United have the final word, though. And they’re yet to agree on the final payment structure or the timing of the transfer. Zirkzee has made his choice, however, and that is a major obstacle out of the way for Roma. It’s because of his decision there is a feeling that the deal can now ‘quickly gain momentum’.
