Coventry City have ‘made enquiries’ for transfer listed defender – Lampard is key

by · Sport Witness

Fikayo Tomori has had a largely successful spell at AC Milan and could now be heading to Coventry City.

The Englishman made 33 appearances in Serie A last season, showing himself to be a trusted player under Max Allegri. Before that, he was close to moving to Tottenham.

Sport Witness covered that saga extensively. The two clubs had reached an agreement over a transfer but the defender rejected the move.

This summer has been full of chaos for the Rossoneri, who now have Ruben Amorim as manager and have undergone a complete management makeover.

Tomori’s future looks increasingly uncertain and Coventry City can bring him back to England.

Player transfer listed

Calciomercato’s Daniele Longo reports on the two former Chelsea players at the Rossoneri – Tomori and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. As the Italian side build a new project under Amorim, they are now certain about selling the duo, who are formally transfer listed.

Unlike the midfielder, Tomori has already attracted offers from England.

Coventry City have ‘made enquiries’ and so have other English sides. The names of the other clubs are unknown, which could suggest that Frank Lampard’s side lead the race for the defender.

As things stand, Milan would be happy to sell the player for anywhere between €15m and €20m. Tomori’s current deal at the San Siro runs until 2027, which makes a sale now the most sensible decision for Milan.

Lampard could be behind move

During their time together at Chelsea, Lampard saw Tomori up close. The Coventry City boss had him on loan at Derby County and also gave him his first-team debut at Stamford Bridge.

There is an obvious connection there and it could prove to be important for Tomori.

A return to England seems like the natural solution for him. The Sky Blues would benefit, as they would sign a proven defender who has also won silverware in Italy.
