Florent Ghisolfi identified 20 goal attacking midfielder – Sunderland could make move
by Naveen Ullal · Sport WitnessSunderland could consider making a transfer move for UD Almería’s Sergio Arribas in the summer.
The 24-year-old’s development at the Segunda División side hasn’t gone unnoticed and already caught Sunderland sporting director Florent Ghisolfi’s attention.
He came up through the ranks of Real Madrid’s youth system and ended up playing 14 matches for their first team between 2020 and 2023.
The attacking midfielder had managed to attract Premier League interest in the past. Real Madrid sold him to Almería in August 2023 and in that summer, Sport Witness relayed news of Chelsea’s interest.
His decision to join Almería has clearly worked out as he not only enjoys regular minutes but is also starring for them.
The Spaniard has managed 38 goals and 16 assists from 116 matches. This includes 20 goals and seven assists from 34 matches this season.
His league stats are as follows:
- Key passes per game: 2.3
- Shots on target per game: 1.3
- Successful dribbles per game: 1.1
- Accurate passes: 86%
- Goal conversion: 26%
- Big chances missed: 11
Sunderland could challenge Roma to transfer
Saturday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport have a report on AS Roma’s interest in Sergio Arribas.
Paulo Dybala’s future beyond this season with the Serie A side remains uncertain as his contract expires in June.
The Italian club have already identified the UD Almería star and Red Bull Salzburg’s Kerim Alajbegović as the two targets, and their interest in the former isn’t new.
Florent Ghisolfi joined the Black Cats in July 2025, right after leaving Roma, a club he had joined in 2024.
He spent a year at the Italian capital before moving to the Premier League side and during his time at Roma, he identified Arribas as a target.
Considering how the player has performed this season, it makes sense for Ghisolfi to have him on his radar for Sunderland.
Therefore, Régis Le Bris’ side making an attempt to sign him in the summer shouldn’t be ruled out. If that were to happen, Roma would face competition.

Sergio Arriba has a contract until 2029 and his value, as per Transfermarkt, is €15m. It was €8m in June 2025.
