Everton owners launch restructuring plans – Toffees purchase required changes

by · Sport Witness

While Everton appear to be in stable waters at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, it’s not the same for Roma.

Calcio e Finanza report today that the Friedkin Group, who own both clubs, are continuing a series of restructuring efforts at the Italian club. A merger plan has now been launched for various companies in charge in Rome.

Roma restructuring

The Friedkins are facing choppy waters in Rome, with changes needed across the board. Claudio Ranieri has already departed from his role as a senior advisor after an apparent falling out with manager Gian Piero Gasperini.

Director of football Frederic Massara is also set to leave at the end of the season. The hunt for his replacement is already well underway. Now attention has turned to corporate restructuring.

Calcio e Finanza explains that four companies who currently run various parts of Roma’s operations are set to be folded directly into AS Roma Srl. That’s the Italian club’s operating company. Specifically, the transaction involves:

  • Soccer Srl
  • ASR Soccer LP Srl
  • Brand Management Srl
  • AS Roma Real Estate Srl

These four companies have managed various interests at Roma under the Friedkins ownership. This ranges from rights and commercial initiatives to brand assets and real estate.

But the Friedkins’ plan is to merge these together under AS Roma Srl. The Americans want a more streamlined structure at the Italian club moving forwards.

The hope is that alongisde simplification the merger will also improve efficiency, and make the overall organisation more transparent.

What it means for Everton

The proposed merger is the latest in a series of restructuring efforts from the Friedkins. Pursuit Sports was formed last year following the purchase of Everton in December 2024.

They are the umbrella organisation launched in July 2025 to unify the Friedkins’ sports assets. That includes Roma, Everton and French club Cannes.

More restructuring could be on the way also. There is a potential conflict if Everton and Roma qualify for the same European competition this season. UEFA have strict rules which block clubs owned by the same owners from competing in the same competitions.

This saw Crystal Palace demoted to the Conference League this season due to ties with John Textor. Other clubs, such as Nottingham Forest, have resorted to blind trusts to avoid the issue.

Reports in Italy have made it clear that the Friedkins are confident they’ve already solved that issue. So far it has not been made clear what their plan is. But this restructuring at Roma could be a part of their wider plans.
