Injury forces Blues loanee to return to Chelsea – Not the greatest start

Burnley‘s Dastan Satpayev will return to Chelsea to work on his recovery, after suffering a setback.

That’s according to ASnews.kz from Kazakhstan, who says it’s their own update about the Burnley man.

Chelsea sanctioned loan move 

The 18-year-old’s development at FC Kairat had caught the Blues’ attention. The two clubs reached an agreement in February 2025 for him to move to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Operating mainly as a centre forward, a left winger and occasionally as a right winger, he managed 26 goals and 10 assists from 58 matches. This includes 11 goals and three assists from 28 matches from last season.

In June, Kairat president Kairat Boranbayev said Xabi Alonso values the versatile forward.

However, the manager didn’t consider him this season, and the Premier League side sent him on loan to Burnley on August 14th.

Injury blow while with Burnley

Since joining the Championship side, Dastan Satpayev has played 284 minutes from four matches. His last match for the Clarets was in their 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough on September 2nd.

The Kazakhstan international didn’t feature in Burnley’s defeat to Bristol City and a 1-1 draw against Wrexham in the Championship.

ASnews.kz reports his absence was because of a hamstring injury sustained against Boro, and he is ‘set to be sidelined for several weeks’.

The young forward will not continue his recovery at Burnley. Instead, he will return to the Premier League side.

There’s no further explanation who decided that Satpayev will carry out this process at Chelsea and not at his loan club. This allows the Blues to inspect the injury and monitor his recovery process.

However, it should not impact the loan agreement with Nicky Hayen’s side. The Chelsea owned player will return to Turf Moor once he regains full fitness.

Satpayev’s contract at Stamford Bridge is until 2023. He can only hope the loan spell at Burnley is enough for him to convince Chelsea to hold on to him next season.

The player’s immediate focus will be on overcoming the hamstring injury and impressing for Burnley.
